Before/After: The Video Shelves Etc.

******UPDATED****** (see below)

(Don't miss a post with actual content, from yesterday).

Here's another embarrassing photo. We have these really handy built-in shelves in our living room -- one of the first things I liked about this house when I saw it. They are CLUTTER MAGNETS. As you will see.

The picture's tilted because I was too dang lazy to get out the real tripod, and I just set the camera on something. So sue me. :)

Think we have enough videos? I dunno.

Note the row of handheld radios in front of the DVDs. I don't think we have enough of those either. Hey, if we ever needed to equip an entire paramilitary squad, or if our entire extended family, adult cousins and all, were headed to Disneyland, we'd be set. I am not at all sure what the final resting place of those is going to be. Where do you KEEP things like that?

Also note on top of the stereo cabinet, the stack of pictures which I took down from the piano yesterday, and on the desk, you might be able to see the little glass bowl of nails to hang them up. And there's folded, clean laundry on the coffee table in the foreground, of course. AT LEAST IT'S FOLDED. Likewise, the sheets, blanket, and pillow on the end of the couch are at least folded and not still laid out on the couch, where I slept last night (no, we didn't have a fight. Occasionally LT will sleep with Daddy and they'll have deep talks and stuff.)

Back in a while...

******UPDATE******

It doesn't look a whole lot better to me. Still busy. But not sad and naked like the piano, anyway. (although I just looked and realized that now that I'm used to it, the piano doesn't look like it minds being naked.)

This job also included a lot of work tidying up the hallway shelves (which hold a very small portion of our Christian books); the bottom two were full of basically clutter and junk, and with that cleared away there was room for our Christian videos in there. (We have a really great collection of CRI's creation documentaries.)

I was going to reward myself with piano time when I was done with that job, but I just looked at the clock and it's time to start supper. Such is life. :)

That is not that bad, RAchel!!

How's it going? I got the 2 bottom shelves done in the back pantry. Not a lot, but something. But then I have done 5 loads of laundry. That is good, yes?? AND I have found a place for my big bulky baby bath and laundry baskets. =) Not too bad!

I'm testing the TypeKey registration I just enabled. If it works, and if you'd like, you can sign up for a TypeKey identity (through the link where you enter comment data) and then your posts will (hopefully) go straight through, without my having to approve them. It's totally optional, of course, and the information you provide won't be used for anything other than this service. (check out typepad's privacy policy just to be sure, if you're so inclined).

Lookin' good! The handheld radios? Yeah, they go in a shoebox with all the other "electronic gadgetry" the husbands like to collect. I'm still a big fan of your sofa. Love the checks and love the woodwork on the bottom!

I have a fetish for shelves. Built in bookcases too. I found a slab of wood and went to Home Depot for some shelve thingies and a hammer and nails and I love it. It wasn't too expensive and when I checked the price for shelf wood it wasn't too bad either. I think for an organizing situation I am going to build something for all my DVDs and videos. I have so many that the entertainment center refuses to hold them all and well I am tired of seeing stragglers on top of the TV, on the floor, on my dresser next to it, etc. Good job by the way I bet your house is looking very nice and I'm sure T isn't complaining any! I'll get in touch with you more later...God to go to work.

Got to go to work that is...

Oh my gosh, we could be twins!! Why clean when there are books to be read?? My computer desk is identical to yours. We call it our tower of technology and messiness.

My piano is also the same, and our entertainment center was too, though we got rid of it and stashed away the tv. One thing you could do to hide the videos is a curtain on a spring-rod at the top of the vertical shelves. I did that with a bookshelf that had games on it, now it looks attractive. You don't even have to sew, you could do it with an iron and stitch witchery, if you're so inclined.

You've totally motivated me, Rachel. We have to get our home ready to sell, and I'll be needing to organize every cotton-picking thing in the house.

Thanks for your blog. I think you're really funny, and I appreciate your honesty.
