day 17 - eighty
Today we celebrated my grandmother's eightieth birthday (although the day itself isn't for a while yet). Grandma's truly lived every one of those eighty years, and I admire her a lot for her tenaciously plucky, matter-of-fact attitude about life. Many happy returns of the day, Grandma.

You know aside from her hair (Which looks lovely!) she looks exactly the same. Wow, eighty. I hope I'm that clear-eyed when I'm eighty.

I love that photo. My husband's grandmother died while we were visiting a few weeks ago (very good timing in a way - that weekend had been planned to celebrate their 60th anniversary, so most of the people who loved her were there) and she reminds me of her - the wrinkles, of course, but also the steady gaze. His other grandmother died only about two months before, so right now I'm in a state to be hit especially hard by tenacious matter-of-fact old women. I want to be one some day.
