while I'm in video mode...

...here's one that LT came up with today. I helped him with the editing and sound recording, and showed him how to set up the camera, and he did pretty much everything else. (I helped him hold his props still every now and then too.)

Oh only you could make snort-laugh and pee a little then bawl my eyes out in a matter of minutes.

Yeah, I had pretty much the same reaction as Jennifer did...

well, I guess I don't qualify as a friend, since we've never met, but I have been reading this blog forever, so I took the liberty of watching. It was a beautiful, touching tribute to your precious kids! And I had never heard that song before...I like it a lot!

PS feel free to post a tutorial on how to make a video like that cool lego one..my kids would love to do that!

Denise, you goof, of COURSE you qualify as a friend. :)

For the video, you'll need:

A digital camera
A tripod
Legos
A sound recording and editing program (Audacity is a good free one)
A computer microphone
Windows Movie Maker or another video editing program, which comes with Windows XP.

LT set up the camera on a tripod, pointing at his Lego board which was taped to the floor, and did the scenes one picture at a time. (He also borrowed his sister's Anne of Green Gables dollhouse and her Fisher Price dollhouse picnic table). Then we loaded them all into Movie Maker in order, with the default (under Edit/Preferences) set at .5 seconds per image. We edited a few areas for effect -- fade out/fade in, adding a black screen for pauses between scenes. Then I put my microphone headset on LT, opened up Audacity, and recorded him doing a few different tries at the voices. I edited the voice clips for volume, exported them as MP3s, and mixed them into the movie in the order he specified. Then I used the program's Titles and Credits function, and voila. It was really simple. The "Thank God for Kids" one was actually more time-consuming, because I needed to match up the pictures with the music the way I wanted, which took for. ever.

Thanks for the friendship, Rachel, and also the instructions! I'm going to show my son...he'll be thrilled! Happy Sabbath Day!

Not to be greedy or anything, but what we need here is some Daddy & C photos. There are you with both kids, there are some good ones of your guys including one where T has that perfect "That's my son" look that you see on good fathers .... I just think the one thing missing is him in a "proud of my daughter" shot. (That's a really incredible video, by the way. I'm just barely enough of a photographer myself to know how stellar your work is.)
